Connect with Local Organizations and Search for Foster Pets Near You | Fosterspace

Did you know that as a registered volunteer, you can use Doobert to connect with organizations and search for foster pets near your area?

These are just two of the many awesome things you can do with our newest module, Fosterspace!

With Fosterspace, connecting with organizations is as easy as adding a location and sending a request, much like on Facebook!

And if you’re trying to find animals that are in need of fosters, you simply specify your location and the type of pet you’re looking for.

You’ll be able to browse through different animal profiles, get to know them through their Ambassador pages, and submit an application once you find the perfect foster pet!

How to Create Your Foster Profile

To use Fosterspace to connect with organizations and search for foster pets, the first thing you need to do is to create your Foster profile if you haven’t already.

Having an active Foster profile makes you visible to organizations that are looking for fosters and allows you to connect with them, as well as submit an application, once you find the right foster pet.

Step 1: Go to the Fosterspace tab

Step 2: Click Fill Out Your Foster Profile

Step 3: Provide the necessary information

First, select the duration of time that you’re available to foster. You can select more than one.

Next, specify the type of animal you prefer to foster and any existing pets.

Provide some basic information about your household and your experience as a foster.

Below this, you’re asked to tell a little bit about your current home environment as well.

Lastly, provide some references.

Step 4: Click Save

Step 5: Activate your Foster Profile

After hitting Save, your foster profile is automatically activated by default.

However, you have the option to switch it off once you’re no longer available to foster.

To switch it back on, you simply go back to your Volunteer Dashboard

then scroll down to My Interests and click on the toggle switch for Foster Profile.

How to Connect with Organizations

Now that you’ve created your foster profile, you can start connecting with local organizations that you want to help.

Step 1: In the Fosterspace tab, click Connect with Nearby Orgs.

Step 2: Enter a Location and Radius then click Search.

Step 3: Send a request.

After hitting Search, our system will come back with a list of organizations that fall under the search criteria you provided.

Once you find the organization(s) you want to connect with, send them a request.

When you scroll down, you’ll see the status of your request under Organizations I Foster For.

How to Search for Foster Pets

Ready to find a foster pet? Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to the Fosterspace tab

Step 2: Click Nearby Animals Needing Foster

Step 3: Refine your search criteria for accurate results

Enter a specific organization or your location.

Select the animal type and gender you wish to foster.

Lastly, choose your preferred age and size.

How to Apply as a Foster

After refining your search criteria, Fosterspace will come back with all the animals that fall under the category.

Step 1: Click on the profile card of the pet you’re interested in.

Step 2: Click Foster Me

where you can read more about them and if you feel it’s a good fit, click Foster Me.

Step 3: Click Submit

You’ll see a pop-up message letting you know that your application has been successfully submitted.

Step 4: Wait for an approval email

Hit Accept to let the organization know you’re still interested in fostering.
